Film In Your Local Area

You don't need a camera crew. You don't need a script. You need a phone, a bit of courage, and someone willing to talk.

Why we need you

I can't have this conversation in every city. You can.

Every person you stop on the street has a story, and most of them have never been asked to tell it. That's the whole point of MENTAL Street Talk. Raw. Unscripted. Human. No two conversations are the same, and none of them need to be perfect.

The more people out there starting these conversations, the louder this gets. That's it. That's the ask.

How it works

1. Start the conversation

Stop someone. Ask the question most people are too afraid to ask. Something like:
  • "Has your mental health ever really knocked you around?"
  • "What's something you've never said out loud about how you're doing?"
  • "Who was there for you when things got bad?"

Let them talk. Don't rush it. The silence is often where the real answer shows up.

2. Film it

  • Portrait, on your phone, that's all we ask
  • Find decent light and somewhere quiet enough to hear them
  • Always get their okay before you start filming, and again once you're done
  • Raw is good. Don't edit it, don't overthink it. Send it as it is

3. Send it in

Upload it straight to us or email it through. However it gets to us, get it to us.

What we need from you

  • Unedited footage, portrait orientation
  • The person on camera has given you clear, verbal consent to be filmed and shared
  • Your name and the city or suburb you filmed in
  • Your social handle(s), so we can credit you properly
  • A one-line intro: who they are, or what the conversation was about

What happens next

Justine personally reviews every submission. If it's ready to go, it gets edited and shared across MENTAL's channels: TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook, with you credited using the social handle you gave us.

If we need anything else from you, we'll be in touch.

A few things people ask

Do I need experience filming or interviewing?

No. Some of the most powerful conversations we've had came from someone with nothing but a phone and the guts to ask.

Do I need someone to film me?

No. You can film yourself on your own camera or phone, no camera person needed.

What if the person I filmed wants it taken down later?

Tell us straight away. We'll pull it.

Can I film more than once?

Please do. The more conversations you bring us, the bigger this gets.

Do I get paid?

This isn't paid work — it's collab-based. Contributors get 50% off a MENTAL tee to wear while filming. You'll receive the tee first, then record your conversation in it.

How can I get the coupon discount code?

Reach out to us through our Contact form — select "Film in my area" from the dropdown, and let us know in your message that you're requesting the Tee discount code. We'll get back to you with the details.

Ready to start?

You don't need permission. You just need to ask the question.
